We have the joy of working with leading scientists to turn their work into artistic experiences that help people feel the facts. Our works are exhibited at museums and venues around the world, including the Fondation Cartier, Barbican Centre, Montreux Jazz, and the World Economic Forum. We collaborate with organisations such as UNESCO, the WHO, the University of Zurich, LVMH, and Polestar.
The studio is led by artist Thijs Biersteker and was founded together with Sophie de Krom eight years ago. All our artworks are technically driven and created in our studio in Zaandam (12 min from Amsterdam) by a small team of skilled, artistically driven, and environmentally committed people.
What we’re looking for
If you enjoy the space between Engineering, art, product and prototype, you will feel at home here.
We're looking for a skilled all-round engineer/maker who can take an artwork from technical drawings and prototypes to a finished artwork, ready to travel the world.
You'll work closely with the artist, production lead and specialists like software developers, data scientists and sound engineers to develop our artworks.
What you'll own
Prototyping & fabrication
Hands-on fabrication and prototyping of artworks, working across materials and techniques to bring pieces from drawings and prototypes to finished work.
On-site installation & dismantling
Install artworks on-site and troubleshoot at museums, conferences and festivals around the world. Dismantle, pack and prepare artworks for shipment.
Studio
Keep the studio tidy, organised, and ready to work in, together with the team. Oversee stock of materials and equipment (computers, sensors, etc.), tracking what's in and what needs ordering.

You come from an industrial design, art, or engineering background, or a technical field focused on building things.
Experienced in realising physical projects from concept to completion
Hands-on all-round maker with experience working with different sustainable materials
Strong communicator, you stay calm and focused under pressure
Trained in engineering, industrial design or just really good at making things work.
Skilled in 3D across multiple programmes
Willing and able to travel internationally for work
Based in or around Amsterdam, with a valid work permit
Fluent in English, spoken and written, Dutch is a plus
A driver's licence is preferred
What we offer
This is one of the rare places where we go from an idea to bringing it on a world tour while having fun figuring out how to build things, move robotic engines and print giant tree roots.
It's a place where we live between prototype and product and communication of the latest environmental science. Your days will involve collaborating in a small team, meeting leading scientists and biologists, crafting artworks, sourcing new materials, solving engineering challenges, and contributing to artworks seen by millions.
We're at a stage where you can grow alongside our mission to communicate science through art. The role includes travel, building installations, prototyping mind-bending projects, and meeting remarkable people from around the world.
We would love to hear from you.
Send us your CV, a short note about why this role fits you, and examples of work you've helped bring into the world. We believe hiring is a human thing. We don't use AI to review your application, and we appreciate it if you do the same when writing yours.
